The final reflection

Two weeks learning the course EFL537 about technology skills online ended. To me, two weeks learning is interesting, and helpful. I can learn more information about the technology as well as computer skills. I can use many webs, shoftwares in my English teaching. I like delicious because I can save all interesting webs I like. Before, I only save webs on my folder. Sometime, it is difficult for me to find it and remember what its content is. But when I learn to save webs on my bookmarks through delicious. I can order the websites, I can describe and note to easy to use it. Moreover, I can find many other people have the same interesting webs with me. I can choose one of them and see what is interesting in their bookmarks. It is really interesting.

I named my blog is " My joys" because I can write everything I though in my blog. I can share my emotion to other people. I can post my photos and my daily routine. I am very please if anyone joys my blog with me and give some comments. It is really my joys everyday.

I think all teacher like slideshare because they can share their presentations to their colleges and they can learn and share their experiences with each others. I also can find other interesting powerpoints from slideshare and download them to my folder in order to learn how they create, how they present their PowerPoint...

I think that everybody like to take photos. I also like it. But I am more excited when I take my photos of my desktop screen by using irfanview and send it to my teacher. Whenever I have problems with computer skills or I do not know how to do my assignments. I usually do like that to send him. My teacher can help me immediately and he can know exactly where I do not understand. It is helpful and fast to m ake queations to my teacher.

The most interesting I love is chatting through Skype. Before learning this course, I always chat through yahoo messege, but the quality is not good when I call, I think so. When I call through Skype I think it is better, I can talk to not only one people but also many people. I also share my full screen through Skype. I log in my Skype everyday when I have freetime. I think it is the most effective when the English learners improve English when takling to teachers or foreigners.... I like this because I can ask my teacher what I do not know to use computer and with my hope to practice my Englsih.

I also improve my pronunciation by record my voice through audacity. It is wonderful when hearing my voice. it is interesting and fun. There are many things I can learn through this course but I can not list all. To me, I really love this course and I will learn more as my teacher said it is never ended. Thanks to my enthusiastic teacher to introduce helpful information and tasks. I hope you will help us now and forever.

Tomorrow is the last day I go to my class and say goodbye to you. Unfortunately, I have just heard a bad news. It's really bad for my family. After the death of my uncle my grandmother was terribely shocked and died. This night, my family has to come hometown right now. So tomorrow I cannot come to class. the nineth day

November , 12th 2009

There is only one day, it means only tomorrow my class comes to the multimedia classroom and learns the course of technological skills with Jeff. It is hard to believe that we have two weeks working together. We get many difficulties but happiness. My teacher, Jeff, always there helps us carefully. Even he lives in US, we are in Vietnam, but he is always beside us and solves all our problems of the computer and difficulties of our assignments. Thank you, Jeff…

Firstly, I don not understand how I send him and let him know the blogs I added in my google reader. Sometimes I think: “stupid I am!”. It is really funny. However, I feel excited because I myself can do all my assignments of the course. I think the most important is not the grade after this course, it is the knowledge, the information and the skills I get. I can learn more about this and I am successful to overcome the challenges, as Jell said I survived.

Other problem I get when save the webs into my folder, it cannot open them. It seems many problems on my way to my gold…I think so

The eighth day

November, 11th 2009

Today, I feel little tired but Iam happy because I can do many asignments. At the beginning of the class. I confuse what I have to do. Thanks my teacher to regularly help me understand the task. I write some comments of my friends' blogs such as: Lien. Binh, Minh Trinh, Ngan Ha (milkyway). I like all of my friends' blogs. They work very hard.

At the beginning of the class, I am worry about my image editing. I send to my teacher many times. I donot know that it is successful or not, I send again and again. It is funny because i send too many. I like to use Skype to talk with my friends and my teacher. I can tell him immediately what I don't understand and confuse. It is happy and nice when my teacher speaks Vietnamese. I know he tries to help me. He says he is tired today. I know and understand that he has to teach us at very late because the time zone is different between US ans VN.

I don't think that we have only two days after today learning together. But I believe that we are all together, and my teacher are still there with his own computer and help us. I am afraid of saying goodbye. But I always want to talk with my teacher : " Thanks alot" about all things you bring to me.

Today, I come the class as usual. It is interesting when I can embed my presentation on my blog. Firstly, I think it is difficult. I read carefully the intruction of my teacher. Step bu step to do follow the intruction. Oh it is great, I can do successful. It is really interesting. Sometimes, I need time to think what can I do next. I have many other asignments to do this week, I will do my best to fufill all my work. Unfortunately, my computer was broken down. Yesterday I had to go to my friend's hourse to read and wrote my reading reflections. I wish it will be fine today. I think that I need time and spacefull atmosphere to think and do my asignment.I hope I can learn more interesting thing tomorrow.

(Using technology to teach listening skills)

Listening was the first recognized as a major component of language learning and teaching. The researcher suggested that language instruction should focus on the learner's listening comprehension in the early stages of acquisitions. I think that in 4 skills of teaching and learning language, listening skill is the first skill that we need concern. In the language classroom, what we can do if we can listen to and understand the lectures of the teacher. In the past, when computer was not discovered, people taught and learnt language by face to face between teacher and learners. Nowadays, with the renovation of technology learning and teaching language is easier and approached many other ways. In this paper, I would like to concentrate only on using technology to teaching listening skills.

Computers allow teachers to add multisensory elements, text, sound, pictures, video, and animation, which provide meaningful contexts to facilitate comprehension. Computers allow learners to here the available input as many times as needed until they feel they understand it.
Furthermore. Multimedia programs can be designed to present material at different difficult levels with adjustments in speed of delivery according to individual learner needs. Using computers learners can listen again and again as they want, they can review and practice materials as many times as they wish.

Moreover, Computers can provide immediate, nonjudgmental feedback and additional assistance to learners. They correct learner's errors without giving them embarrassment or anxiety. The programs can be designed to be suitable with the levels of the learners from beginning to advance.

Using computers to teach listening, the learners can concentrate on from phonemes to words, to phrases and clauses, and other grammatical elements, to sentences...It can help the learners develop their phonological, lexical, and grammatical knowledge as well. These activities also help the learners to enrich their learning phonics and pronunciation...

There are many other effect that technology can help people in teaching and learning language but I can not list all. I think that teaching and learning language through using computer and technology is a renovation in our life. It brings many useful and helpful. Iam sure it is helpful not only in listening skill but also other skills such as writing, reading, talking.... I want all people especially in the poor countries, people can have opportunities can have enough condition to using technology in teaching and learning language.

(Designing CALL programs and activities)

I teach English at primary school, so my students are very young and naughty. Sometimes they do not want to learn. They do not concentrate on the lesson, they draw something and play games in class. I think that games are good to enrich their imagination and thinking but how to play and what kind of games they play need concerning by adult. From this fact, I always let my students learn English through playing games, do crosswords, quizzes....
I am attending the course EFL537, I learn interesting tool to create games and activities. I can create my own games to my students and I read some good information in website : and I think I should read it carefully before create games

Firstly, designing Call programs and activities need concentrate on the interaction between learners and learning objectives. We should focus on the pedagogy, the learner's needs, the target learners ( age, level, learning style, motivation of learning...) after that the technology second. We can create some interactive activities such as: multiple choice, gap-filling/cloze, matching....

Secondly, I know that it is difficult for people to read many time from computer screens, and it is lower than reading from the pages so when creating games we should focus on comprehensibility, accuracy, interestingness and organization. Games should be appropriate to learner's language level and the information needs to be organized systematically and presented clearly. The programs needs to be of greet interest to learners in order to motivate them to learn with the program, especially the young learners.
The content needs to be accurate, valid and unbiased, avoid all the errors.

Finally, to create interesting games, we should think about the visual design. We should use color, good layout, capitalization, typefaces and fonts to interest the learners. When they see the screen, they think that it is interesting and helpful site. They want to do the games immediately and do not want to change other sites.
Each section of content should fit onto one screen, and different parts of the information should be distinguished from one another. We can use some picture to illustrate or visual noice to attract the audiences.

I think that to create interesting and useful games, the authors need many skills about the pedagogy and the technology. If they want to develop the learner's knowledge , they should develop and master them first. Iam sure that Computer games are very good to motivate the learners and create the interest to them.

the week 2

November, 9th 2009

I think that Icannot come to class today but I can. I feel little bit tired. This week we also many things to do. After this class I need to sleep to have a good health to do better. I listen to music on site nhaccuatui.com. and write my blog. It is interesting. There is connection problems so sometimes i cannot chat with my teacher. I change the other computer, it is very happy that this computer can use Skype.
I see that my friend, Tu can do many asignment. He may spend all his weekend on using computer and do the asignments.
My computer at home is infleted by virus, I cannot turn on and turn off. I cannot use it. This afternoon I will bring it to the computer hospital. I hope they can cure it as soon as possiple.
My computer likes my relatives. I open it every day when I come home.
At my drug store, I use camera IP and load it on the Internet, so I stay at home and see all activities happened at my store through my computer.
I think that the technology can help people in many ways.

Dear my teacher,
I have just heard that my uncle died today. So my family has to come to my hometown immediately.
It is quite far from my home in Hanoi, so we get on car. I think that I can not return Hanoi soon.
If I can not return Hanoi on Monday, I must absend on that day.
I would like my teacher, Jeff permit me not to come to class on Monday. (if I cannot return the class soon). I will fufill all my task. I would like to thank my teacher and my friends. I wish everybody help me if I have problems of my work.

Reading Refection 2

To all people who teaching and learning language, CALL likes a tool which helps people quicker and easier to teach and learn as well as improve their language. It consists of the eare of technologies which applied by users to learn language through Websites and CALL program's.

We can do and create games, quizzes, writing blogs, online dictionaries, online encyclopedias, e-texts and so on..... Some people are worry that using computer makes the language learners not interactive, but I do not think so. We can do many exercises, quizzes, games: multiple-choice, true / false quizzes, gap - filling, writing and word processing, matching, crossword puzzles.....especially, we can listen to and record our voice and share to other people. We can improve our pronunciation, tone if we record and listen to it again.

We can see and chat with no only one person but also many people at the same time in Skype. In spite of going to school to discuss in group, we also can stay at our home and do well this work.

Like me, other teachers can use PowerPoint to create the presentation. We can add pictures, videos, audios...with lively slideshow. Furthermore, we can share our lesson plans through slideshare to learn and get experiences to each other. It helps teachers in presenting lectures effectively and interestingly. They do not need to carry cumbersome teaching aid, they only use a computer and their prepared lectures....

CALL is also encourage people discuss, writing or criticle thingking. Many effective programs are available to people to improve their language, tools such as: word processor, spelling and grammar checkers, concordances... are very helpful. It stimulates people to work and learn perfectly.

Call helps to deal with the problems and questions of variety aspects of our life. We can distance learn, email, discuss forum, chat rooms.... It is also really useful and helpful is self-access learning.

Whenever we read an interesting website, we want to save it. We can use delicious. In here, we can find many people has the same interest with us, we also discover other sites that they likes...

There are many purpose of CALL which brings to our life in teaching and learning language that I cannot list all. I realize that it is very effect and useful. I hope that I can learn more information to use CALL in order to enrick my knowleadge as well as my language.

week 1

6th, November 2009

today I'm very happy because I can complete my week 1 asignment. I fild many interesting things each day. Now I am confident to create my own quizzes and games, record my voice and share with my friends. What a pity my computer has no skype at the class so I cannot chat with my teacher. I usually listen to music and interesting video clip on YouTube. I have wonder that how can I load the video clip or songs in to my computer to use it as my doccuments.
We discuss the effect of all website and tool we learnt this week. Firstly I am not sure to send it to EFL537 but when I do it I can remember all steps. It is happy to succeed.
Through this course, I can understand many way to create somethings. If I have any problem and I want to learn more, I will ask my teacher, Jeff

Today, we are happy beacause we can record our voice. It is very funny and interesting when I hear my voice, It is quite different from my real voice but I love it. This skill is very interesting. Many time before, I wondered that how can I record my voice, I have to use my cassette and play tapes. However, I understand how people load the record on the Internet. I really like it very much and I think it will help me when I teach in the future.

My students are very young, so they are very naughty and intelligent. They like to play games and quizzes. I usually download games on the Internet, I have to coppy to the words and then print to them. It is not interractive, they only have to choose the answer and then I check. But now, when I learn to create games and quizzes on Potatoes, it makes me change. It is really helpful to me. I think that my students will like it very much. Moreover, I myself create my own quizzes. It is wonderfull.

I think that the course EFL537 is a renovation in our work. It can deal with many problems and questions that I concerned. I like it very much and I hope I can learn more interesting things in the next days.

The third day

This this the third day we do all the tast of this week. Each asignment is interesting but quite difficult. We have many work to do. I step by step listen to my teacher's intoduction however sometimes we have problems. What a pity, I cannot chat and talk with my teacher through Skype. I can do asignment 1 and 2 at class. I read through other asignment. I feel that they are difficult but interesting. We all work hard to do. I wish my teacher stay here and help us directly.
We are excited to discover the way to do and the interest in each skill.
I will do my best to do my asignments.

The reflection 1

Learning English is luck to who have been studying it. We can go every parts of the world and we can understand each other because English is an International language. There is a world existing out side the real life. It is the Internet. It is accessed by many people from very young to old. It is a habit that is quite necessary in our life. Especially people who learn English. The Internet is really helpful and useful. I agree with the author of the article : How I learned English in the pre-Internet age and why you can do it faster"

Firstly, through using the Internet, we can read blogs, forums and other websites on topics that I found interesting. There are variety topics on that such as: computers, science, philosophy, politics, websites, marketing, shopping...etc. I feel that it has all subjects of all aspects in our life. Instead of going to the local or school library, I spend lots of time on searching webs and enjoy everything I like.

Secondly, I can stay at home download movies, series, stories, cartoons, documents, and video lectures. It is really interesting, funny, and helpful. I can learn English faster when watching English subtitle films or listening English songs by using YouTube... I always do quizzes or games to learn vocabularies. I can download the songs I like to podcast on my IPod or my mobiphone. Moreover, I can chat and share all my information with my friends and my relatives. I have an eldest brother, he studies and lives in Germany. We always contact with each other, chat, share pictures, send email and information through Skype, Gmail.com or Yahoo.com.... We can see through Web cam, it is really wonderful.

Finally, The Internet is a huge library. If I go to the library, I can only borrow few books. However, on the Internet I can read change many many books at the same time. It also have pictures and video clip to illustrate. Instead of looking up all words on a heavy dictionary, I can use variety dictionaries on the Internet. I love it because I can look English words more quickly with easily understandable definitions and lots of example sentences... Furthermore it is really useful for me to post questions and comments to discussion forums and blogs. It also helps me to eliminate mistakes and pick up right words. My English can improve rapidly.

In conclusion, there are lots of usefulness of using the Internet on learning English but I can not comment all. To me, using the Internet in learning English is a renovation in our life and work. I hope that I can learn more computer skills, technique and software to learn and enrich my knowledge as well as my English

The second refection

Attending the course EFL537 is exciting but it is difficult. Sometime I think that the way leads to the success, I have to face many challenges. What a pity, today I can not conttact with my teacher through Skype. I used to phone and share pictures with my brother by using Skype. It is really usefull and fun. We can talk, chat, see him through Skype. However, I donot know why I cannot talk to my teacher even I tried many time.

I also register Delicious.com. I think that I do right way but there is a problem. I try to send my link again with my own computer when I come home. I hope it will be Ok.

I'm very surprise that my teacher can send me the brief meaning of using bookmark by Vietnamese. I hope I can meet him directly. It will be very nice.

All my friends work very hard however some of us are not successful today. Tomorrow, we will try to do again. Hope that we can...
It is reaaly challenge but I love it.

The first reflection

This is the first time I create my own blog. I'm very nervous because I have never tried to do this before. I'm very interested in learning the course EFL 537 but it is quite difficult. I will do my best to learn this. I'm really happy to see and hear my teacher. He is very manly. All of us are very eager to see him again. I read the course view but there are many link to read. Some things are difficult for me because I have never done it.
